Should Bleeding Necessarily Occur If One Has Miscarried?

I am almost 8 weeks pregnant. I went an ultrasound at 6 weeks and everything was fine but I went to the hospital less than a week later because I wiped and saw a little (brownish) blood. I had a tech doing her first ultrasound and she told the doc she couldn t see a heartbeat. I had my first HCG levels done at the hospital and they were 17000+, they went up a bit but not as much as they doc wanted. She has told me that I miscarried but i m still having all the pregnancy symptoms and no blood. Shouldn t I be bleeding if I had an apparent miscarriage 2 weeks ago?

Hi,
In the current scenario, you need to have the sonogram repeated, preferably in the trans-vaginal route, by an experienced sonographer. Serial estimations of serum beta-hCG titres are more useful than a single reading because doubling up of titres is observed every 2-3 days with good progress in pregnancy. You would notice decline in pregnancy symptoms along with some bleeding sometimes, had you miscarried. Serum titres also would fall in such a case. Hope this helps.
