Should I Consult A Dermatologist Or Physician For The Cracks At Finger Tips And Heels And Have Been Breast Feeding My Baby?

Hello Doctor, My wife is 26 years old & mother of 1.5 years old baby. She has started developing cracks at finger tips and foot few months back and now it's getting worse. We live in Bangalore, India which has relatively cold weather and we tried moisturizer, creams meant for cracks which didn't help so far. I thought it's due to some deficiency due to continuous mother feeding to our baby. Also when I searched on web, I've read that it might also happen due to excessive stress level which she has been going through in looking after our baby. I've decided to consult a general physician; but, I could like to know whether we should consult a Dermatologist or a general physician. Also could you please advise on possible causes for this issue and is it minor/ major issue?
Thank you!
Regards,
Dinesh S.

Hi,
Thanks and welcome to HCM .
cracks develop over feet a swell as fingertips due to exposure to cold weather, specially in winter season.
Reduce exposure to cold by wearing gloves and socks.
Dip your hands and feet in warm water 15-20 minutes 1-2 times daily.
Apply Vaseline ,oil,butter locally.
You may apply whit fields' ointment (ointment containing salicylic acid and benzoicacid)twice daily
If want to consult better consult dermatologist .
Hope this reply is OK for you.
