Should I Be Worried About Increased Dosage Of Warfarin For Lung Embolism When My INR Keeps Dropping?
I'm female 55, 5'5" 297 lbs (And dropping...from 374) On warfarin for a lung embolism, but my INR keeps dropping. I have no idea why. Today it was 1.3. I don't eat dark green veggies, I do have a salad made with iceberg lettuce about 4X's a week and 2/3 cup coleslaw maybe once a week. (It's how I'm losing weight) My nurse hiked my dose up to 7.5 today...should I be worried?
hi, you are on high dose, yet poorly controlled INR. Warfarin is one of the drugs whose metabolism is dependent on many factors. This is a commonly encountered problem with warfarin. we handle these situations by replacing warfarin with other coumarin derivatives (eg; nicoumalone etc) which may help in some individuals. you may discuss with your doctor and ask for a change from warfarin to other anticoagulants, which can bring back your INR to target range (INR>2.5 is required for you.) Hope this helped.
