Hi. I was bitten by a dog earlier this day, and I was told that I need to be injected a tetanus toxoid, ATS and anti rabies vaccine. But is it possible for me not to do the skin testing of ATS since I had already done it few months ago because of puncture wound?

Hi, Thanks for asking. Anti-tetanus serum is not necessary, if you were previously immunized with tetanus toxoid. If you were not previously immunized and only given ATS, then you require ATS to increase immunity till your body starts producing tetanus. ATS is produced differently by different companies and protein will vary in each. This protein in certain people can induce life threatening reaction. So it is necessary to test each time for ATS. Complete your anti-rabies vaccine dosage and later on, take a booster for tetanus too. Any further queries, happy to help again.
