Severe Pain In Lower Back. No Help From Physical Therapy, Vimovo. Due For Medicine Intake For Hypertension. Will Cortisone Shot Elevate BP?

I am considering getting a cortisone shot for severe lower back pain, that has only minimally responded to physical therapy and a short 1 week course of Vimovo. I have recently begun to suffer from hypertension (in the 140/90 range), which is being monitored pending my having to take medication for this. Will the cortisone shot elevate my blood pressure even more?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic.
The problemof low back can be due to many causes like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondilitis or trauma to skeletal system.
The diagnosis should be made before starting any treatment.
Steroids are known to increase blood pressure specially during initial periods. Naproxen is an NSAID group drug that also increases blood pressure, so it is highly advisable that you don't take the medicine by yourself but under the supervision of a qualified physician. Vimovo is to be used for short term because long term use may cause complications like heart and circulation problems and gastritis.
I hope the advice will be helpful for you.
