Severe pain in both the heels. Can t walk properly. Advice?

Hello Doc, I have been suffering from pain in my heels, both feet (more on the left foot ) since past 1 year, The pain is severe once i stand after a long sit/sleep. The moment i put my feet on the ground it pains for a couple of minutes and I cannot walk properly. I hardly wear heels, generally I wear flat shoes. I want to know why does this happen and what is the cure. Whom should i consult for further medications . Regards,

Hi Anita, all your symptoms typically suggests that you have "Plantar fascitis". Nothing to worry as such as this is a benign problem. Though simple, this condition generally takes a chronic course. The management for this problem will be as follows :
- Analgesic /antiinflammatory medications as and when required
- Soft cushioned foot wear
- reducing body weight (if overweight)
- simple stretching of the toes before getting out of bed
- if all the above measures fail, then a steroid injection into the most tender area is required, which will be done by an orthopedic surgeon. Hope this helps
