Severe Elevation In Heart Rate When Trying To Sleep. Possible Reason?

Hi. My heart rate skyrockets when i try to sleep at night I lay down to go to sleep but when my head hits the pillow my heart starts to pound to the point of which i can hear it in my ears, I usually check my neck for how fast my pulse is going. And it is usually my exercise peak heart rate. It feels like i just got done running a few miles. I don't know what the issue is but could you please tell me what i should do.

Dear Sir
Thanks for writing to us.
It is quite unusual to have your heart rate increased only when you hit the bed. If you are sure that it is not increased at daytime? Does it start racing as soon as you lie down or it increases only when you suddenly woke up from early sleep?
If you get it just on lying down without any trouble (like shortness of breath, chest discomfort)? If it is so and it occurs daily, I would like you to get a holter monitor done so that rhythm at the time of episode can be picked up. This will help in further work-up and ascertaining the cause. In case there are additional symptoms, you will require a cardiac ultrasound also.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder
