MY GRANDSON S PATHOLOGY REPORT CAME BACK AS AN ATYPICAL MELANOCYTIC PROLIFERATION. HE IS BEING CALLED BACK FOR RE-EXCISION. WOULD IT BE SAFER FOR HIM TO SEE AN ONCOLOGIST AND IS HE AT AN INCREASED RISK OF DEVELOPING MALIGNANT MELINOMA? IS LASER OR SCALPEL EXCISION BETTER OR IS THERE ANYTHING NEW THAT SHOULD BE DONE?
Hi and welcome to HCM,thank you for your query. You should not use laser in any kind of suspicious skin tumors including this one.there is no othe method than surgical excision where good ehougn resection margins can be achieved and then this lesion can be analysed patohystologicaly. Wish you good health. Regards.0
