Hello,

Thanks for the post,

From your description you are likely suffering from a peripheral polyneuropathy which is simply damage to the peripheral nerves which could be due to a good number of causes with the most probable being an autoimmune diseases such as pernicious anemia (vitamin B12 deficiency which will possibly be ruled out given that you were on vitamin b12 supplement already) etc. Acute polyneuropathy can have various causes, including infections, autoimmune reactions, toxins, certain drugs, and cancer, or even being idiopathic (or a disease entity in and of, itself, with no identifiable cause). Chronic polyneuropathy is often caused by diabetes mellitus or by the excessive use of alcohol (alcoholic polyneuropathy), but a variety of other less common causes are known, including nutritional deficiencies, and liver or kidney failure.
You will need to have your primary care doctor get you evaluated, run some tests and maybe provide you with some treatment or refer you to a neurologist who can look further into your condition.

Hope this helps

Hi,

As I have previously answered in couple of questions, Pricking, itchy and burning sensation in hands and feet could be usually caused by peripheral neuropathy which is damage caused to the peripheral nerves. This in turn is most commonly caused by Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, , Smoking or excess alcohol consumption.

Based on your age most common cause can be Vitamin B 12 deficiency which can be due to gastrointestinal disorders such as Atrophic gastritis, Crohn's disease, Celiac disease etc and may also be due to excess intake of antacids like proton pump inhibitors (Omeprazole, Pantaprazole, Rabeprazole) etc. As you have already taken B12 supplements, I wanted to say that treatment depends and varies on the cause of Vitamin B12 deficiency and just mere supplementation with Vitamin B12 would not completely treat it.

Coming to your Vitamin D deficiency, the normal range according to new research studies is 30-100 ng/mL. And the best test for it is 25-hydroxy vitamin D test. I was your doctor I would recheck the levels and treat accordingly. Hope it helps.

Take Care!
