Pregnant. Spotting, Abdominal Pain. Taking Progesterone. What Is The Problem?

Dear Dr.
i am about 7-8 weeks pregnant, my age is 28 height 5feet 3 inches. weight 71 kgs. i started spotting from almost a week which started in chocolate brown color.from last 2 days i am having severe abdominal pain with spotting but which is not heavy.
consulted my doctor and asked to take bed rest ,taking progesterone vaginal tablets twice a day.
please help me to understand what else could be the problem, and when the bleeding stops

The mild spotting in the early pregnancy is seen due to incomplete attachment of the newly formed placenta to the uterine cavity. The progesterone supplements that you are taking will help in decreasing the bleeding.
