Please Suggest Treatment For Nodules On The Thyroid

My husband's feet and ankles have been swollen for about 6 weeks, he has had blood work and an ultra sound on several parts of his body. The ultra sound found some nodules on his thyroid. Today we went to the hospital and had another ultra sound on his thyroid and I saw serveral nodules on the screen. He is 49 years old and in fairly active and in good health. His sister passed away at last year at 50 years old of bile duct cancer. Could the nodules be causing the swelling? How will we know if the nodules are cancerous or not?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

1. Thyroid nodules may not be a cause for swelling of legs, but underfunction thyroid will be. Please share with us the thyroid function tests report.

2. To know if this nodule is cancerous or not you have to do a needle test of thyroid nodules (Fine needle aspiration cytology)

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
With warm regards,
Dr Ajish TP (MD,DM)
