Pain In Lower Part Of Mouth, Have White Circle Between Bottom Part Of Gum And Lip. Can I Apply Orajel?

I have recently been feeling a certain pain in the lower part of my mouth. It s been going on for two days now. I thought it was just because of my toothbrush, but I checked in the mirror, and I noticed a white circle in between the bottom part of my gum and my lip. The pain is incredible and I am not sure if I should apply orajel to it.

Hello,
Thanks for your query.
I read your problem, but the detail given by you is not sufficient like do you have smoking habit or do you have pain in the adjacent tooth also.
Any ways,if you have pain in the tooth adjacent to that area then you need to visit a dentist in your area as soon as possible because this pain could be due to infection deep in that tooth.
If it is sort of ulcer, you can apply mucopain.
But in both the conditions you need to visit dentist for complete clinical oral examination and x-rays if needed.
Nothing to get worried.

Hello and thank you for your question.
This sounds like you have the beginning phases of an aphthous ulcer. The white portion is a membrane. The best thing to do for this if an ulcer is to break up the membrane, get it to bleed and allow exposure to oxygen.

Recommendation is to apply oral gel, take your toothbrush and poke the membrane until you have it bleeding, then dry the surface and take a cotton tip with hydrogen peroxide (no higher than 3% per volume) and apply it to the surface of the wound. This will hurt, I will warn you. But you will feel much better afterwards and it will heal a lot faster. Aphthous ulcers will take 1-2 weeks to heal.
This will also help: avoid spicy foods, rinse your mouth with salt water to help shrink the lesion (take 10 ounces of warm water with a teaspoon of table salt, swish and spit the entire glass 4-6 times a day especially before and after meals), take anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen.

I hope this helps, best wishes and health

hello and welcome,
the pain can be due to several reasons-
1.chronic cheek biting due to mal occlusion.
2.toothbrush injury.
3.oral habits like tobacco/pan chewing can lead into precancerous lesions like leukoplakia, lichen planus, erythroleukoplakia etc.
apply dologel/mucopain gel on the affected site.
warm saline gargle will be helpful.
if symptoms persist, visit your dentist and get clinical check-up.if needed, biopsy can be done in such cases.vitamin becosules and cap.revup can be taken in case of precancerous lesions .
if there is malalignment of teeth, get it corrected by orthodontic appliances.

hello
welcome to HCM,
I just went through your problem & it is known as Apthous ulcers & they are really painful.
Common Causes can be:-
-Improper food habits like taking much of spicy food
-Gastric upset
-Stress problem
-Hormonal changes
-Nutritional deficency
-Improper Oral hygiene
-Lastly if its reccuring then it can be due to some sharp cusp.

What all you need to do is improve her dietary habits like include more of green vegetables & less oily & spicy food.
Also start with Tenvit-Plus capsules along with application of some anaesthetic gel like dologel or Mucopain gel.
You can also go for tetracycline mouthwash.
All these will definitely help you out.
Take Care

Regards
Dr.Neha
