Pain In Knee, Difficulty Walking And Bending Knee. History Of Hit To Knee By Son S Head While Playing. Concerning?

Hello,

About a week ago I was laying in the bed and my finance and step son was playing. My stepson fell on the bed hitting my knee with his head It hurt for a few minutes then the pain left. I began to fill pain in my knee 3 days later where it became difficult to walk, go up and down steps, and bend my knee. I do not know if it is something serious or will go away with time. I do not have any more pain when walking but slightly when going down the stairs.

Hi ! From your history, it seems that you had a bruise in the soft tissues (muscles and ligaments) around the knee which caused you pain and swelling after the hit. Now that the pain has come down, this signifies that no serious injury has occurred. Climbing up or going down the stairs exerts much pressure on the ligaments of the joint resulting in inflammation and pain. If I would be treating you, I would have advised you a knee cap for supporting your knee and bed rest for some time along with an anti inflammatory drug and physiotherapy for a few days . If it is not possible to take complete rest, then you should at least reduce using the stairs as much as practicable. Otherwise your pain will become chronic and you may have to consult a orthopedician in the long run. Thanks for using healthcaremagic for your health query. Take care.
