Pain In Chest And Rib Cage Center If Pressed. History Of Vigorous Physical Activity. Advice

Hi I have been hiking for every second day for two weeks now. The hike is very challenging and basically makes me continuously try to breath while my heart rate is at beating very fast. Probably 150+. It used to feel uncomfortable but every time it seemed to get more painful. Today I could barely hike a few steps an needed to slow down to keep breathing and heart rate down due to pain. When I press on my rib cage center it actually hurts even when I am not hiking. Is this just accumulated fatigue? BTW I can easily run a half marathon with none of this problems or even heavy breathing.

Hi,
You don't mention your age or previous medical details so I am assuming you are generally in good health. Although you can run half marathons, hiking uses different muscles, therefore you may have strained a muscle you are unaccustomed to using excessively. Also, if you have a pack on your back, is this adjusted properly so that it is in the best position for walking?
It is likely that you have embarked on a concentrated amount of exercise that your body is unfamiliar with but, with time, you will adapt and the pains will reduce. Perhaps reduce the intensity of your hikes for a few days and you may recover better inbetween them.
