On Cipro For Diverticulitis. Having Tailbone Pain And Pressure. Could This Be Early Signs Of A Perforation?
I am a GI nurse and have been dx with Diverticulitis, I have been on Augmentin 875mg bid x 6 days and the pain became worse then my doctor put me on Cipro 500mg bid and Flagyl tid, I have been on that course for 2 days, I know have bad tailbone pain and pressure. I am afebrile, no vomiting, just the increased tailbone and inguinal pain. Could this be early signs of a perforation?

Even localised fecal peritonitis secondary to rupture diverticula will present with high grade fever and pain. It's unlikely to be perforation in your case. Get a abdominal ultrasound done if the symptoms persists.

Pain abdomen is associated with perforation and it starts from the site of perforation then spread all over abdomen.But it is not the only sign.
Patient also has card board rigidity of abdomen and rebound tenderness.After some time,intestine becomes silent and stop passing gas and stool.
X-ray of abdomen in erect posture should be done.CT Scan of abdomen can also be done for confirmation.
