On Wellbutrin, Now Having Abdominal Discomfort And Dizziness. Side Effects?
I am now at the end of the first week of weaning off at half dose of lexapro, while taking Wellbutrin (150 mg). I will continue the half dose of lexapro for another week and then increase to 300 mg of Wellbutrin. Since I started the Wellbutrin, I have been having abdominal discomfort and dizziness (especially with alcohol). Is this what I can expect with this new drug, or is this temporary? I have been on several antidepressants over many years and have not had this reaction.

Hi Teri,
You are currently being tapered off from escitalopram (lexapro) and are on a hiking dose of bupropion (wellbutrin).(?cause for the switching of drugs)
The effects of bupropion result in a side effect profile different from most antidepressants. Insomnia being the most common one and there are others like anxiety, agitation, tremor, nausea, abdominal discomfort , dry mouth, excessive sweating, tinnitus and rash etc.
It is recommended not to take alcohol with this drug. It may increase few of the side effects or cause more mental slowness than expected. If a person is a regular user of alcohol then it is strictly advised not to take the drug with it because suddenly reducing alcohol intake can cause seizures in the person.
Discuss this with your psychiatrist, if a drug does not suit you then there are other options.
