Occasionally Skipped Heart Beats, Taking Paroxysmal, Sotalol. How To Eliminate This ?

I have occasional skipped heart beats. The doctors have told me that they are not really skipped heart beats, rather they are heart beats bunched together so that it feels like a heart beat is skipped. I have paroxysmal a-fib and am taking Sotalol 120. Usually that medication is enough to keep my heart in sinus rhythm. But lately, it has not been enough. I've been told in the past that my atrial valve has a leak. Is that leaking atrial valve the cause of the "skpped" heart beats? If so, how can I eliminate the "skipped" beats?

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

If the problem is still bothering to the extent of interfering with life style, you may need Electro Physiological Studies (EPS) > it resembles angio – a catheter is put inside the heart / electrical activity recorded / stimulation and suppression tests are carried out / suitable medicine tested and so on. Though the test is the gold standard, it is INVASIVE and hence, is not generally done unless there are compelling indications. This super-speciality expert is called ELECTRO-PHYSIOLOGIST.

The treating doctor may suggest them depending on need, based on his assessment of the situation.

There are advanced treatment modalities – like pulmonary veins isolation / ablation of bypass tracts (thermal or radio-frequency) and so on - which could be done during EPS.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
