Normal Bleeding After Surgical Abortion. Again Bleeding Started With Light Cramps, Big Brown Clump. Normal?

I had a surgical abortion a little over a month ago.. After I had normal bleeding for about 2 week.. Since the bleeding had stopped I have had a brownish discharge off and on sometimes with clumps.. Today it has started again but this time I am having light cramping and I passed a quarter size brown clump. Is this normal? What could this be?

Hi,
Recurrence of bleeding with passage of pieces is not normal. It is suggestive of retained products of conception and/or infection. You should get a check up with the gynecologist who has attended on your abortion if possible and also get a trans-vaginal sonogram to check for retained products. If nothing is seen, you may be given antibiotics, supplements and hormones to arrest the bleeding. Else, you may need a check curettage to empty the uterus completely. Hope your query is answered. Wish you good health.
