No, you will not experience it foreever, your body will get adapt to the medication soon. I have just 1 concern, since you have been started on metformin, you might be a diabetic. However, it is also used for numerous other conditions as well. But in case you are a diabetic, i expect that your kidney functions must have been evaluated by your doctor, to rule out diabetic nephropathy. In case not, then get your Serum Creatinine checked. I am asking this because, Metformin may be a contraindication with deranged Kidney functions. If every thing is normal, then you can happily continue with metformin.
