My Mean Platelet Volume Is 9.4. What Does It Means?

I recently had some blood tests done. My results state that my mean platelet volume is low at 9.4. What does this mean? Also my EST Glomerular Filtration Rate is 58. Notes next to this result state that normal is above 60 and that values from 15-60 indicate chronic kidney disease. Does my value of 58 mean I have chronic kidney disease?

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows:
1. Low mean platelet volume means you have more small platelets. Mean platelet volume would not affect platelet function. Unless you have a bleeding disorder, this value is not important.
2. Estimated glomerular filtration rate of 58 is near normal range. However, if you are diabetic or hypertensive, it needs to watched out with repeat test after 6 months.
3. Chronic kidney disease can also be supported with estimation of serum creatinine and urea. Do get it done to confirm any possible kidney damage.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
