Marijuana During Pregnancy Is It Harmful?

All of the information I found online seems to be contradictory. This is common with most marijuana information. Physicians or Naturopaths can you give me some insight? I guess I m looking for any personal experiences, did you or someone you know chronically use marijuana during pregnancy, what was the outcome? How are their kids now, ages, etc? Also if you have any links please list them. Not currently pregnant, so don t be so judgemental... just gathering information.

I smoked the entire pregnancy with my Son who is now 4. He is fine. He is extremely bright! I was worried when I got pregnant if it would affect him, but he was absolutely perfect. He does have a severe dairy allergy, but I don't believe it is related. He even got a perfect apgar score when he was born. I also have 5 different friends who all smoked heavily while they were pregnant. All of their children are fine as well. I wouldn't worry about it.

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Jasvinder Singh's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic. Marijuana, like cigarette smoke, contains toxins that keep your baby from getting the proper supply of oxygen that he or she needs to grow. According to American pregnancy association smoking marijuana during pregnancy can increase the chance of miscarriage, low birth-weight, premature births, developmental delays, and behavioral and learning problems in children. S it should be avoided.

Hope it helps you. Regards.

I have a 15 month old daughter and she is also perfectly fine. She doesn't have allergies or eye problems either. I've never smoked anything in my life! If you want the gift of a child, 9 months is not that long to wait to give up smoking, drugs and alcohol. I'm 24 and pregnant with my second. I've given up birthday drinks, redbull and theme park rides. It's a small price to pay for a healthy, happy child. They deserve the best start in life.

I am 24 weeks pregnant and I'm about to quit smoking, but according to the ultrasound and the doctors, my baby girl is perfectly healthy. I've also done research and have talked to many other smoking mothers and all of their kids are fine. Just as long as you quit long enough before you give birth to get it out of the baby's system, it should be fine.

It's not just the short term that you need to think of when it comes to your child's health and well being - it is also the long term. Your 15 month old or 4 year old may have no health issues now but what about when they're 20 or 40 or older? The toxins in cigarette smoke and likely also marijuana can affect your child much longer down the rode than 4 years. Protect your child, it's your responsibility. I'd be pissed if I found out my mother smoked while she was pregnant with me and KNEW that it was bad for my health.

dont smoke pot or cig's when your pregnant i understand its hard to quit smoking cigs but pot is easy to quit its not even addicting like cigs, anyways it took me till the 3rd month to quit and if you dont have money or anyone to give you a cig your set, im 5 months pregnant now but im still not smoking pot and cigs can hurt your baby ask any god damn doctor. to tell you the truth my husbands mom smoked 2 cigs a day one in the morning and one at night, but that disnt mean it was a smart choice, if you want to have a healthy non low birth weight baby quit smoking till its born thats what im doing, its only 9 months to deal with cravings were you could regret it for a much longer time {MAYBE}. and no im not a health freak im not a tree hugger or a damn organic freak, but i KNOW if smokings bad for you then imagine what its going to your unborn kid whose much smaller and sad a body that isnt fully developed

p.s. your baby's not even close to being half way done with developing so quit your shit and do the right thing for your baby and stop smoking or put it up for adoption cuz i cant see a smart deserving parent do that, you have to be a one of them 14-17 year old in order for me to understand why your being so stupid and immature

Smoking mj during pregnancy is cool. I have three kids...all by different daddies, and all of them are a trip. It's fun just to sit around and kick da Bo-Bo with them now that they are older. They all have a great outlook on life and know to hustle like a Mofo. My one babies daddy used to blow shotguns in my cooch the last trimester, and it was all good. Im just tellin my experience and keepin it real....other peoples may have had different experiences......know what I'm saying? Word.

My ex-wife smoked like a fiend and both our daughters are super smart. They are 8 and 11 years old. But yes, make sure you eat the right munchies!
