Lost Consciousness, Chest Pain, Vomiting. Taken Slo-niacin And B Complex. No History Of Heart Trouble. What Is Wrong?

The other nite I took my usual slo-niacin (Upsher-Smith brand) at 10:30. I also take a B-complex, Sam-e. Earlier in the evening I had consumed a bottle of champagne over a 6-hour period. I woke at 3:30 a.m., itchy, prickly hot. Got up and felt dizzy. Sat on the toilet. The next thing I remember, my husband was yelling at me, squeezing my hands, asking me what was wrong. I had lost consciousness, was shaking, hands clenched at my chest and had vomited. I don't remember anything past feeling abit dizzy. My husband said I did not respond, even when I opened my eyes, and I was apparently moaning loudly, which is what woke him up. It lasted about 20 minutes.
The next day I was fine. I am 63 years old and have no history of heart or any other health problems.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

There is an old expression, “Post hoc ergo propter hoc”, meaning ‘after this, therefore because of this’ / It is natural human tendency to associate things with the immediate past -
Niacin and/or alcohol, especially the combination – could have been responsible…. Yet your syncope needs further analysis
See an Internist / get yourself examined / at times, basic investigation may be necessary...
Neurologic examination is mandatory / MRI may be needed. MRA (MRI angiography) shows blood vessels and is generally done at the same sitting.
If no clues, you will need cardiologist – to exclude arrhythmia..
The treating doctor alone can suggest based on his assessment of the situation.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
