Is Surgery Required For Non Healing Open Wound From Where Hernia Repair Was Done With Mesh 2 Yrs Ago?
I am looking to get a second opinion on a wound I have on my right groin area. I had a hernia repair 2 years ago with mesh and my body has begun to reject the mesh. I was hospitalized twice on IV antibiotics which has helped settle it but there remains an open wound where the medical staff cut the skin to see beneath and an inflamed area around aproximately 3cm wide and 8cm long. The specialist gave me a really bad prognosis and said we would wait and see for now but it would need further surgery to cut out mesh. I will be getting married end March. I need to get well. Please advise. Christopher
Hi, In hernia there is protruding of your abdominal content outside through a gap so content it again put in abdominal cavity n mesh is applied to reinforce the gap. You underwent mesh repair which got infected later which dint repaired despite of undergoing treatment so there is no point keeping mesh and def u should undergo surgical intervention n get it removed . After removal of infected mesh healing becomes quite fast n hope u recover very fast .
Thanks n regards
