Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently prescribed methadone for pain. My Dr. passed away last week & the fill in dr doesnt like to prescribe methadone, he preferrers suboxone! He filled my script this time but he is tryin to discharge me any way he can. Do you know any drs who will take me as a patient?
Suboxone contains buprenorphine which is an opioid like methadone. It can be expected to give you the same pain relief as methadone. Many doctors are not comfortable with prescribing methadone in high doses due to risk of cardiac side effects and prefer to use buprenorphine. If your new doctor wishes to switch you to buprenorphine from methadone, there is no harm in trying.
Best wishes.
