Is Pneumonia Vaccination Required A Year After Recovery?

Last fall I had a VERY bad case of bacterial pneumonia - I am wondering if I should have a pneumonia vaccination this fall to prevent another infection. I can understand how a vaccine can prevent a viral form of pneumonia which would be contagious, but I am not sure if it would prevent the form I had which my doctor told me was caused by a bacteria I picked up somewhere. Is it true I am at greater risk of getting pneumonia again because I ve had it once already?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The vaccine would not be for the community based pneumonia.

It would not be able to prevent this type of infection but you can take a vaccine to prevent the flu and possible complications such as pneumonia.

I hope this helps
