Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

There could be 3 reasons for your symptoms and thyroid function suggesting hyperthyroidism:

1. Graves disease - entire thyroid is hyper functioning - there can be associated eye changes like protrusion of eye balls

2. Toxic multinodular goiter - here there are multiple nodules in neck - some nodules are hyper functioning

3. Thyroiditis - here thyroid is destroyed and thyroid hormones are released in blood.

By doing a thyroid uptake scan (technitium scan) we can differentiate these different types. Treatment depends on the cause. Pain in the neck and sudden symptoms are more in favor of thyroiditis.

Please share with us the thyroid scan reports, so that we can explain the treatment option to you.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
With warm regards,
