Is On And Off Intake Of Lamictil For Bipolar Disorder, Bouts Of Tantrums, Excessive Irritation Dangerous?

My friend is taking Lamictil for bipolar disorder. She "weened" herself off the medication several months ago and "weened" herself back on it within one week. This sounds dangerous and she has had a few bouts of tantrums with excessive irritation since the self described "weening" back on it this week. Is she in trouble? She has definitely had some major stressors going on, but nothing like death or moving.

Thank you for asking on the HCM.
It is not recommended to stop or start such medicines at patients end. As she is having irritability and there have been significant stress on her she might be going into the high phase (Manic episode) that has not fully established yet. Irritability can also come with the depressive phase of the bipolar disorder. Therefore i would suggest her to see her Psychiatrist as acute treatment of mania or depression is different from the maintenance treatment that she was taking.
I hope you find this helpful.
