Is it true that overdose of polio vaccine is responsible for AIDS, nerve diseases?
Is it necessary to give pulse polio to a 5+ months old baby where as the normal polio vaccination going on by the home/ child physician ? Is these rumor has any connection in truth that Polio vaccine is partly responsible with AIDS / Polio vaccine ( Pulse polio ) is partly responsible with nerve diseases etc. due to over dose of vaccine i.e. more than 15 doses....Please response....from Samik Chakraborty, Kolkata ,India

Yes pulse polio vaccine can be given to 5 months old baby, over and above the scheduled vaccine dose. The meaning of pulse is to deliver large quantity of drug to large group of people in one time and purpose of pulse polio is not to live a single baby without polio vaccine ,so that this we can eradicate the polio from this world, like small pox. There is no truth in these rumors that polio vaccine can cause hiv/253657?iL=true" >AIDS, and how can it?(it is not possible at all, unless vaccine is contaminated with HIV).No such case is reported in literature. No case has been reported that more than 15 doses of polio vaccine have caused nerve disease, However if the polio vaccine is not properly prepared (which never happens) it can cause polio. The WHO has reported that chances of catching polio are highest in Nigeria and the chances are 1 in 1.3 million.

No, it is not true that an over dose of polio vaccine is responsible for AIDS. It is also not true that the oral polio vaccine can result in paralysis or any other nerve disease.
