Is It Safe To Take Ceftaxidime And Levoquin For Pseudomonas Pneumonia?

My Husband is in the hospital with pseudamonas pneumonia. He is 78 and smoked for about 27 years and may have copd. The doctors did a bronchoscopy and are giving him ceftaxidime and levoquin. I can't seem to get prognosis information from them. They say he may be in the hospital for 48 more hours. They do tell me he is very sick. Is this pneumonia curable?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, this kind of pneumonia is curable.
Don't worry.
Pseudomonas infection is common in COPD patients.
Pseudomonas infection always require dual antibiotic coverage.
He is taking correct medicines. Ceftaxidime is cephalosporin group of antibiotic. Levoquine is le of look. It is also broad spectrum antibiotic.
So both these are good against Pseudomonas.
So he will mostly recover with these antibiotics.
Once he is out of this pneumonia, get done adult pulmonary vaccines like pneumococcal and influenza vaccine to prevent recurrent respiratory tract infection.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
