Is It Safe To Have More Than 5 Heart Ablations In A 71 Year Old Male When Only 1st Were Successful?

For a 71 yr. old male patient, Is it safe to have more than 5 Heart Ablations...the first 3 were for A-Fib and the last two were for A-Flutter. The first 2 were successful, the last two were not, making it even worse. The fifth was one week ago. A catscan was taken the next day and discovered an occluded pulmonary vein. Now the cardiologist is wanting to have a 6th Ablation this coming Tuesday, in hopes of finally getting the A-flutter wiped out. OR she will put in a pacemaker. Is it safe to do another serious surgery , whether it be an Ablation or a pacemaker, so soon? Plus the patient always has a strong reaction to anesthesia - low Blood Pressure (down to 40) that takes several hours/or days to bring up to normal. I am concerned that we are pushing our luck in doing still another Ablation, when the last three have not worked. Aren t there many things that could go wrong? I have heard tyhat many cardiologists refuse to do more than 2 Ablations. Why is that? Will be most grateful for another Dr.s opinion on this. My husband wants to have another Ablation and I am full of fear. Distressed in Seattle. Thankyou, LA Street: YYYY@YYYY

Hi I read your query very carefully.

You have to wait for another opinion because you can't go over and over with this procedure.

You should discus all medical and invasive option for a final solution of your problem.

Hope it answered to your query!
