hello. today i had severe episode of epistaxis.its winter here...temp is minus 2 and its really dry atmosphere..so today the blood wasn t stopping so i went to ENT and there a junior doctor packed my nose by gauze...it was sooo painful procedure as he inserted 4 gauzes in my right nose. its really uncomfortable to be with gauze the ENT told me he wil remove the gauze after 3 days..so i just want to know that is it really important to keep the gauze in my nose for 3 days..? because i wana get rid off the gauze ASAP ..its irritating..!!
If the epistaxis is not controlled by ice pack, nose pinching or any medication then it is safe to insert nose pack. Once pack is inserted, it should be kept for at least 48 hours for proper action. You can take injection Texid 1 gm or tab Texid for 2 days. If you want to remove the pack then you should continue Nasoclear and Oxymetazoline nose drop for at least 1 week. You can take Botyriclot or Botyripause nasal drop for 1 week if the bleeding didn't stop. Check your blood pressure, sugar, bleeding and clotting time.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
