Is It Advisable To Take Tablet That Contain Calcium And Magnesium?
Drs. Michael Roizen & Mehmet Oz recently said in a "YouDocs" column that if one takes magnesium with calcium, "you can kiss that calcium goodbye. My physician says it is not true. The 600mg tablet of Caltrate that my wife and I take has 40mg of magnesium in it. What do you say about this issue? How can the world-famous Cleveland Docs be wrong? Thanks!
Hello Please note down and read this carefully , so that you will understand better. From 30 % to 80 % of ingested calcium is absorbed . The absorption of calcium is inhibited by phosphates & oxalates because these anions forms insoluble salts with calcium in the intestine . While magnesium and calcium compete for same channel so decreases the absorption of each other . But magnesium don't form any chelation with calcium so don't inhibit complete absorption. If in any mineral phosphate or oxalate present then it will inhibit absorption of calcium . Hope this will help you.
