Is Heartburn A Sign Of High Cholesterol Level?

Is heartburn a sign of high cholesterol? I am 33, 5'6", healthy, blood pressure normal, weight about 12 stone, although my BMI is not too high, considering my weight. I exercise 3 times a week and am aware that I should do more. Have a good healthy diet with the odd treats.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Welcome to HealthcareMagic,
Heartburn also called as Gastroesophageal reflux disease is due to the acid in stomach refluxing back into the upper food pipe called as esophagus. Heartburn is not a sign of high cholesterol. But in severe obesity may result in heartburn. In order to avoid heartburn avoid smoking, alcohol, coffee, eat less spicy food and take your medication after food (unless instructed otherwise by your physician). Take Tab omeprazole 40 mg once in day at evening time before a meal for six week.
Hope that answers your question.
Regards, Dr.Imaad.

Cardiologist Dr. Rajesh Teli's  Response
hello,
I have gone through your query. Thanks for using HCM.Heart burn is not a sign of cholesterol.very rarely heart pain may resemble heart burn. This may be due to cholesterol deposition in arteries of heart.so if you have high cholesterol you should get ECG and exercise stress test done to rule out blocks in heart arteries.
My best wishes
Dr.Rajesh teli,MD.
