Hello,
1. Persistent or intermittent raised bilirubin is one of the clinical features in infection with
Hepatitis B, C, so slightly raised level could signify an inflammatory reaction in the liver which should be diagnosed in relation with:
- Consultation with a Hepatologist.
- Checking with LFT's [SGOT/SGPT/PT, serum albumin].
-
Ultrasonography [to differentiate other causes of jaundice] or CT scan of Liver.
Liver biopsy [diagnostic].
2. Remember that although these tests are sensitive but very nonspecific and serve to detect liver disease rather than quantitative liver function.
So their high values don't signify a serious complication most of the time, it is the underlying pathophysiological process which needs to be diagnosed and managed.
3. Preventive measures which you can adopt
- Maintain personal hygiene and cleanliness.
- Boiled water or bottled water.
- Strictly no alcohol, painkillers [except paracetamol].
- Typhoid and cholera vaccine should be given a week if travelling to unhealthy places].
-
Immunization against
Hepatitis A & B.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
