Is Acidity Related To Hypothyroidism?

Thanks This is Rahul here. I have been having chronic ACIDITY since last 15 years. I had a endoscopy done few years back & was told that my food pipe has been damaged due to excess acid in my stomach. Now few days back, I got a thyroid test done - and i was detected positive for hypothyroid. Are my acidity problems related to thyroid?

Both Acid Reflux(acidity) and hypothyroid are common conditions
Hypothyroid means the thyroid gland is under active ie. not producing enough hormones which is required to the body.
thyroid hormone is necessary for all the body activities.Also required for the proper gastric emptying too.There muscular ring between food pipe(oesophagus) and stomach.This sphincter (muscle) ring prevents the re-entry of food particles from stomach to esophagus.In hypothyroid persons this muscle ring can be little relaxed and allow the reentry of food particles.it causes heart burn and will damage the food pipe.there is also possibility of delayed gastric emptying of food particles which can add on to the conditions.Hence treatment of hypothyroid is very essential .
