Is Ibuprofen Intake Safe To Reduce Joint And Muscle Pain?

I have expereinced muscle/joint pain for some time which my doctor thinks may be caused by the statin I take as part of my heart medication following an LI in Spetember 2011 when I had a stent fitted (Asprin, bisoprolol, ramipril, simvastatin(briefly replaced by Atorvastatin). Currently I am on a "statin-free holiday" since last Friday. Gradually the pain has been subsiding. However, this morning on getting out of bed I suddenly felt a lot of pain just below my right knee. This has continued all day. I can barely walk it is so sore. lying down doesn't help. The most relief I have is sitting on with my thigh parallel to the ground and my foot flat on the floor. Any movement to stand or move is very sore. Would it be alright to take ibuprofen to try to reduce the pain?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Yes, you can definitely consume Ibuprofen for short term relief of pain arising from your leg. However, it is not advisable to continue it for prolonged period without actually knowing the underlying cause of your pain.

So, I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon( if the pain persists for more than a few days) for a detailed clinical examination and proper diagnosis.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
