Infant. Strong Cries, Red Face, Signs Of Abdominal Pain With Passing Of Gas. Prescribed Colimex DF. Safe Medication?

Hello Doctor
How safe it is to give "colimex df" to my little son of 25 days old? He cries strongly at times, his face becomes red, utters stressing sounds as if he is having some abdominal pains, with such stress he tries to pass air at times as well. Our Pediatrician has advised to give Colimex DF 2-3 times a day for such cases. It seems he feels better when we give Colimex drops to him and goes to sleep peacefully.
Is there something to worry about? Is Colimex DF safe for such low age? Please advise.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child seems having colic which is common around this age.

Colimex-Df drops can be safely given to the kid for colic.

Give the drops whenever the kid cries with colic.

And you can hold the baby tummy on your shoulder or do gentle circular massage on tummy for relieving the pain.

For gas usually I suggest neopeptine oral drops.

Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.

Regards.

Pediatrician Dr. Rajiv K Khandelwal's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Colimex DF is safe but should not be resorted just because your infant boy is crying. The cause of crying/irritability should first be assessed. The infant can cry for a number of reasons like:
1. Hot environment.
2. Hunger (requirement of feed).
3. Mother's comfort.
4. Though unlikely in your case but possibility of ear infection following upper respiratory tract infection.
I have not used any anti-colic medicine in my practice and believe in assessing the situation and explaining to the anxious mother.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son all the best.

Regards,
