I Have A Sore Throat, Mainly The Right Tonsil. It

I have a sore throat, mainly the right tonsil. It is difficult to swallow and particular foods (i think acidic) cause a lot of pain - i.e. orange juice, tomatoes, spice. Not really sure what to do to alleviate discomfort. It also looks like I have a small ulcer just inside the mouth next to the tonsil. This morning there was fresh blood in my mucus. Appreciate any advice. Many Thanks

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic.

You have a tonsilitis. Tonsilitis is most often infectious and cause by viruses or bacteria. Viral tonsilitis generally resolve within a a couple of days while bacterial tonsilitis are usually persistent and associated with fever.

The onset of bleeding makes your case particularly severe and you need to seek medical attention for workups such as throat swap for microscopy, ASLO, complete blood count etc. If the results are indicative of a bacterial infection, you will be put on antibiotics.

Mouth wash such as hextril or mouth combined with anesthetic agent such as Drill pastille ( to suck ) will be of great help in addition.

Best regards
Dr Achuo
