What Causes Itchy Red Rashes Around The Groin Area?
I have a rash on my inner thighs near my vagina and on my buttocks. I have been applying a prescription ointment that I used for contact dermatitis. The rash seems to go away but then reappears in another area. The area is red with small bumps and itchy. Some of the bumps seem to open and then seem to dry up.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Most likely it is a fungal infection. The groin folds trap heat, moisture, humidity which favor growth of the fungus. I suggest you to use a topical antifungal, e.g., Clotrimazole 1% cream, twice daily for 2-4 weeks. In addition, you can take an oral antihistamine, e.g., Cetirizine tablet once every evening for symptomatic relief from itching. Keep the folds dry. Use an antifungal dusting powder, e.g., Clotrimazole 1% dusting powder even after the rash resolves to prevent recurrences.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Kakkar S.
