How To Treat Earache With Swelling And Discharge After Wearing Hearing Aid?

My ear has been hurting for the last few days. I think it may be a pimple or something irritated. As the opening of the ear feels slightly swollen and has had a small amount of discharge. I started wearing hearing aids a few weeks ago and if I put the hearing aid in that ear it really hurts. I don't want to run to the doctor for something as stupid as a pimple, but don't want to ignore it, if it could be something worse.

I put some hydrogen peroxide in it last night with a q-tip, which helped a little. I also took some Advil.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain earache along with swollen ear canal and discharge is an indication of ear infection and many a times of an individual wear hearing aids and if proper hygiene is not maintained it can lead to infection in ear..
Pain on wearing hearing aids seems to be due to inflamed ear canal..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and in case if there is infection he can advise you to take a course Oral antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers, and antibiotic ear drops..
Cleaning or Drainage of ear discharge can be done by Physician for faster healing..
It should not be ignored as you are already wearing hearing aids and in case if the infection keeps progressing it can further damage your eardrum and there can be complete loss of hearing as well as infection can progress to inner ear and can become more severe..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
