How To Treat A Dark Coloured Knot On The Ankle Of Foot?

Hello, my husband has A-Fib and Cardiomypathy. He has a defibrillator with a pacemaker built in. He has a knot on the lower part of his right leg. It is swollen from his lower leg to his ankle. It has a dark color/blue color to his ankle/leg. He had an x-ray done to see if he has a blood clot and the x-ray shows no blood clot but dry blood on the inside of his leg. He is and still is on a blood thinner. What can this be?
