How Safe Is Lynestrenol Pills During Pregnancy?

Hi, I missed my periods for 2 months and after that I went to a doctor where I was told to take lynestrenol pills in order to have my period. Anyway, I have taken these pills for 5 days, 2 times per day and I waited for 13 days after I finished teh therapy and still there was nothing. I went back to a same doctor and she confirmed me that I am pregnant in 4 weeks and 2 days. So, my question is if you take these pills for rregulating your period, and after that you find out you are pregnant, are there any risk for teh baby?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Lynestrenol is a progesterone tablet.
It belongs to category D drugs in pregnancy according to FDA.
According to that there is some possibility for fetal risk.
But as you used only few tablets in very early pregnancy, there may not be any major problems.
If you decide to continue the pregnancy, continue with regular antenatal checkups and ultrasound examinations.
Ultrasound at 11 weeks and TIFFA scan at 18 to 22 weeks is important to detect any possible anomalies at the earliest.
Start taking folic acid tablets from now onwards.
Take care.
