How Many Bowel Movements Per Day Is Normal For Newborn?

Hi, my baby is now 7 weeks old. He is now 4.7 kg and 58 cm.He is mostly on formula (Karihome goat milk mix with Mamex gold cow milk) and very little on breastfeed or bottle feed as my supply is not enough. He has a very frequent bowel movement every feeding or in the middle of feeding i.e. more than 5 times everyday. Sometimes he could has bm max 10-12 times per day. But we found his stool is not very hard or watery though sometimes it could be a bit watery. the colour of his stool is bright golden yellow. May I know whether it's normal for my baby to have frequent bm? Is my baby healthy? Should we switch the brand of his milk powder or stay on?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
I would want to know if this has been the case right from birth or has it started recently.

Secondly two milks should not be mixed, as in goats and cows. As of now I would recommend only one type of milk to be given.

If the same problem continues then the stool should be tested for reducing substances.

Probably you should also get back to your paediatrician who can assess the baby as to whether the baby is dehydrated becoz of excess motions.

Hope this has helped
Take care
