Hi, I have been on Synthroid for two weeks after being diagnosed with hypothyroid. My level was 11.67 although previously my level was at 6 but my family doctor did not advise me. In the second week my leg/knee have started to ache. I am on a medium dose of medication but don't see a lot of change yet. The first couple of days of taking meds I felt terrific but maybe was just having a good couple of days because after that I began feeling very tired again. I am 55 yr old female, also taking progesterone, estrogen and testosterone cream. I have good blood pressure and doctor says all my other numbers are good. I am having surgery soon and I am worried about being hypothyroid. Also worried about the aching legs now. How long does it take to feel better?
Hello and thank you for asking! I have gone carefully through your concern. The under active thyroid symptoms usually improve 1 month after starting treatment and need 2 months to disappear. Rather the pain in your leg is due to hypothyroidism, is difficult to say, but if it persists even after the TSH is corrected (2 month) another cause should be found. Hope the information will help. Kind regards, Dr.Mirjeta
