How long will it take to cure red rash around the mouth?

Hi, my 18months old son (12.8kg) was just prescribed Flucloxacillin oral solution 125mg, 2.5ml 4x daily. He s been having red rush on his face around his mouth. It started as 1or 2 single spots with white center about 10 days ago and it spreading into red areas with white spots, which are constantly wet as my son is dribbling a lot. He was prescribed Fucidin Cream last friday. We ve been applying this 3xdaily for last 3 days but it s not getting better. My son has asthma and is using Beclometasone inhaler 2x daily. My son also wasn t very well last weak some respiratory viral infection. My question is: How long does it take for the Fucidin cream to start working? And if my son starts taking the Flucloxacillin antibiotics, can he be exposed to the sun as we are going on a beach holiday in 5 days? Many thanks for your answer, S.

Hi,

Taking flucloxacillin and being exposed to sunlight should not be a problem.

But please make sure that it is not photodermatitis first.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sumanth Amperayani, Pediatrician, Pulmonology

I started with a red, extremely itchy rash in my groin area a week ago. I was taking Omnicef at the time for a u.t.i so my GYN assumed it was an allergic reaction. Also, nightime cramping in my legs and knees began when the rash appeared. The rash has now spread to my neck, scalp, arms/underarms, bra line, abdomen, and legs. I am taking Prednisone, and Diflucan for possible candida. The rash isn t clearing with the steroid. When I wake up in the morning, the rash is at its itchiest and subsides as the day goes on, but I find new areas where its spread as well. What is this? Do I see an allergist, immunologist or dermatologist? I have no clue.

I am 39 years old. Got sick two weeks ago due to a cold. However, I still have the feeling of mucus in my throat. When I cough, I have a slight shortness of breath and sometimes some chest pain; no wheezing. This started 5 days ago. I do not know if this also has a connection with what I'm experiencing right now, but I've noticed that the past couple of days that my stool is loose and dark (don't have diarrhea and not constipated though). Thank you!
