How Long Will DVT In The Leg With Swelling Take To Heal?

Hi, My husband has a DVT in his right leg. It was diagnosed three days ago and has been given anticoagulants (injection and pill) every day since. I am wondering if it's possible for him to have a PE while being treated or are the chances very slim. I am also wondering how long it will take for the treatment to help. His calf is swollen and the pain seems to be getting worse not better.

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM.
I reviewed facts of your query in context to your health issues and feel concerned about them.
My Primary Opinion-
In My opinion, in the given situation you seem to suffer from-
DVT with Soleal thrombophlebitis.
Chances of PE are low-as he is kept on blood thinners.
But dear, as the calf swelling is accompanied, Total Bed Rest with antibiotics and NSAIDs-pain killers is a must to prevent PE in this critical period -of 10 days period.
Increasing pain is not a good sign and needs to be under observation in Hospital till risk is over, after proper aggressive treatment needed in such cases.
Do's Suggested-
Get Stool/ Urinalysis/Blood test profiles done with X-ray Chest if need be.
Consults with Physician/ Vascular Surgeon would be needed to resolve the issues you have.
Needful treatments of the accompanied calf thrombophlebitis would resolve the health issues with long remissions.
PCDT(Percuataneous Catheter directed Thrombolysis) with TPA-tissue plasminogen Activator-like Activase/Alteplase after antibiotic/NSADs treatment cover, may be needed.

Dear, Please update more information and details, on the lines asked above,to give further suggestions in this confusing complaint query.

Other causes need to be ruled out, after getting more details from you.

Next appointment-
Asap to review and plan the treatment for existing problem .

If you update more information/ details upon these suggestions, I would give further suggestions on medicines to correct your health issues.
