Hi,

Nexito (escitalopram) is an antidepressant medication used to treat depression and anxiety disorders. The duration of treatment with Nexito depends on the individual's response to the medication and the severity of their condition. It is important to follow the advice of your psychiatrist regarding the duration of treatment and any changes to your medication.

In general, it is recommended that individuals continue taking antidepressant medication for at least 6-12 months after they start feeling better. This can help prevent relapse and improve long-term outcomes. Some individuals may need to take medication for longer periods or even indefinitely, depending on their specific situation.

To determine whether the medication is effective, your psychiatrist may assess your symptoms periodically and adjust your treatment plan as needed. It is important to report any changes in symptoms or side effects to your psychiatrist promptly so that they can make any necessary adjustments to your treatment.

It is also important to note that stopping the antidepressant medication abruptly can cause withdrawal symptoms and may worsen your depression. If you and your psychiatrist decide to discontinue your medication, it is usually recommended to do so gradually under close supervision.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
