Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My friend has a rash on her back and the urgent care doctor thinks it could possibly be shingles. She has no blisters yet but a burning sensation tto the rash area. I was with her yesterday as we watched a video and I served her breakfast. We had no direct contact with each other but I am wondering if I could have been exposed. I have a daughter with special needs that is home with me and I often care for my 10 month old grandson. I have not had a shingles vaccine. Is there any precautions you can advise me of?
** Thanks for contacting with your health concern:
1. No rash with burning sensation could be developing herpes and majority of herpes cases are spread through sexual contact and it is possible to spread the virus via fingers [i.e. if someone touches an active sore and then touches the mucous membrane]
2. check with a medical specialist to determine whether you are infected or not since he will be conducting a physical examination and if he thinks necessary then he may carry out certain lab tests for the same.
3. make sure to get a shinglesvaccine, prior to coming in contact with your siblings, and:
. Avoid sharing your personnel items and keep separate shaving blades for face, underarm, and pubic hairs. . maintain proper hand washing techniques and take vitamin C rich diet which is needed for proper functioning of immune system
