How Can Heart Burns, Nausea, And Constipation Be Treated?

I have always had a history of stomach pain/problems as a child I took pills to relax my colon since they said I had a spastic colon/IBS. It seemed to work and I went years without major problems. Some years ago now I started having issues but nothing to bad or serious in terms of pain. But anymore I get such pain and I am nauseous and gasey everyday and some days I actually have to stay home from work since moving makes it worse. I have learned to deal with it and I can tell whether I need to stay home or if I can move around I make it to work. I have tried cutting typical triggers from my diet and it helped a little but not near enough, I have gotten to the point now that I don t plan anything major away from home or a bathroom as I never know when I will feel ill and I can t exercise properly anymore as running or harsh activity (such as going up large hills or lifting weights) makes me feel ill. I take ranitadine (150mg 2x a day) and that seems to help with the acid/heartburn but not always the pain nausea or loose stool/constipation. I have never gotten a doctor to do any procedure such as colonoscopy or anything as I am always told its just acid reflux and IBS. Is there anything else I could do??!!

Hello,

I can understand your concern for GI symptoms.

1) You should continue ranitidine for heartburn.

2) Your symptoms might be due to severe gastritis related indigestion in which there will be inadequate stomach acid production due to inflammation of inner wall of stomach.

3) You should do upper GI endoscopy for this. If this is ruled out by normal finding then it is essential to undergo colonoscopy to differentiate other causes for indigestion/IBS.

4) Till that time you can continue intestinal digestive enzyme supplement medication, anti-colic medication for stomach pain and acidity medication for heartburn.

Hope I answered your query. Of you have any further doubt, I would be happy to help you.

Have a good day!
