How Can Groin Strain Be Treated?

I have just been diagnosed with a groin strain. I am not athletic. The most physical thing I did this year was lift a gallon of Bryers ice cream from my freezer....so I don t know how this happened. It started several months ago, with a slight discomfort in my groin, which I paid little attention to because I have learned to live with pain. I use a cane because of severe arthritis/stenosis/scoliosis/bulging discs....etc. Several days ago the pain made itself noticed with a vengeance. It is excruciating, if I move the wrong way...which I avoid. It s difficult to avoid putting strain on the affected leg. My confusion lies in the fact that my doctor has prescribed heat twice a day for 1/2 hour periods. Everything I have read online suggests ice, and not heat be applied. Please clear up my confusion.

Hi,Dear,Thanks for your query to HCM.
Dear I read facts of your query and reviewed it in context to your health issues submitted.
I understood your health concerns and feel Concerned about them.
You seem to be suffering from following possibilities-
Mostly this is due to progressive Inguinal Hernia, which may cause the groin pain from straining work increasing abdominal pressure.
The excruciating pain in groin while moving in certain direction, could be fixed with USG of the groin / inguinal canal.
You would be wasting valuable time in conservative treatment by
Hot fomentation- as this would not give relief in your case,as the case could be from Inguinal hernia.
Consult surgeon to fix causes of groin strain by doing physical check and by USG groin area.
Other Causes leading to groin strain and discomfort with it like nerve compression / or Meralgia paresthetica -need to be verified.
For this to verify Second opinion from another Surgeon is suggested .

Just don't worry and be patient and co-operate with your doctors, till you verify with your attending doctors.

Hope this would help you to treat your health issues in the best way possible.
